About the Event
Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation, Vaddeswaram - 522302, Andhra Pradesh, India,
is hosting the Winter School on Speech and Audio Processing (WiSSAP-2024) on the theme of
“Multilingual Speech Processing of Indic Languages” during December 09-12, 2024.
India is a multilingual country. There are 11 classical languages, 22 officially recognised
languages and thousands of other languages of 4 language families, spoken by about 145 crore Indians.
Development of multilingual speech systems will help in minimizing the communication difficulties within
this diverse community. However, there are challenges due to low linguistic resources. In this
background, the theme of the current WiSSAP is chosen such that invited talks by experts, discussions
and interactions among speech researchers would accelerate efforts in this direction.
During the four days of the School, invited talks will be delivered by the expert speakers covering
fundamentals and theory in depth, the applications and practical aspects of building state-of-the-art
Multilingual Speech Processing systems for Indic Languages. In addition, there will be presentations
from the Research Labs/Industry about their activities in speech processing, interactions with the
speakers and also discussion on the open problems in this area.
WiSSAP-2024 is targeted mainly towards undergraduate students, post-graduate students,
college-teachers/faculty in educational institutions and scientists/researchers in Research
Labs/Industry who are interested in this area and would like to learn more about this area.
About WiSSAP
The Winter School on Speech and Audio Processing (WiSSAP) is an advanced school, organized annually in India since 2006. It provides a forum for researchers to enhance their expertise by exposing themselves to areas at the forefront of speech and audio signal processing. The past 16 WiSSAPs have covered different aspects of speech and audio processing - perception, recognition, coding, enhancement, synthesis, spatialization, production, hearing aids, music etc. The past WiSSAPs were hosted by IISc Bengaluru, IIT Chennai, Kanpur, Bombay, Guwahati, Mandi, IIIT Hyderabad, DAIICT Gandhinagar, SSN College Chennai, College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram.
